Bella Rustica Design

BellaRustica introduces a style defined by a subtle often whimsical signature borne of a romance with both nature and Italy. All items are hand made by me (fatto a mano) in an effort to share with you something that inspires me. I draw from a palette of warm, subtle earthy hues incorporating texture through the use of written expression, nature, paint, and natural fabrics.

Burlap Pillows with Italian phrases and images

Fatto a Mano (made by my hand)

I personally make each pillow by hand. I begin with cutting the burlap and then I surge the edges for a professional finish. Once the image transfer is complete, I machine sew the pillow, then press the edges before turning it inside out to press the edges again. After the down & feather pillow form is placed I finish the pillow by hand. Burlap is tricky to work with but the results are elegant yet rustic, a perfect combination. Each is non-chemically printed with an italian phrase or image onto a natural or light colored burlap - see below.

This pillow was inspired by my Labradors and in response to many requests for a pillow design to honor our pets or others we love and have lost. I chose to create the statement in letters bold and large enough to fill the entire pillow as they do our hearts.

Each pillow is custom made for you at the time of your order and can include a Saint Francis of Assisi medal (The Patron Saint of Animals) and delicate ribbon which I will attach to the pillow at the end of the phrase (see above). I will contact you after you've placed your order to confirm whether you'd like this addition, free of charge.

This pillow was inspired by the classic film of the same name by Federico Fellini. "La Dolce Vita" was nominated in 1960 for four Academy Awards.

The Broken Twig Chandelier is the essence of rustica e elegante. These chandeliers are made by hand in the United States by a small, family business. Each chandelier is no less than a work of art and is crafted of hickory branches and twigs. Your purchase will include a set of hand-dipped long taper bulbs, and the cost of crating and shipping. The prices below are estimates based on maximum shipping cost from the East to the West coast. Once an inquiry is made I will provide actual shipping costs to your home along with a separate invoice special to your order. Multiple orders to the same address can reduce shipping costs by almost half.

The photographs of the chandelier above were taken of one I had in my dining room in Coronado, CA and now my dining room on Saint Simons Island, GA. This chandelier measures 36 in diameter and 36 in height, has six bulbs, and would be considered Large. A medium and small size are additionally offered at the following measurements and general prices listed below.

Rustic Wooden Crosses

Rustic wooden crosses made from wood found on Saint Simons Island, GA beaches and piers.

Painted on each cross are some of the italian words or phrases:

Mi manchi ogni giorno - I miss you every day

The original idea behind the crosses was to have a way to honor my dogs when they passed. I have kept all the dog tags and thought I might hang them somewhere and, over time, the idea of a hand made cross with faded italian words and phrases came to me. Each is a one-of a kind and can be purchased with the simple designs of aged wood and faded words or they can be embellished by attaching something in the middle of the cross to hang an object or objects from that are important to you. I have chosen dog tags and Saint Francis of Assisi medals but I'll leave that to you and will be happy to assist.

Embellishments available for the center of the cross for 15 dollars each - aged brass drawer pulls, antique glass draw pulls, or rose/magnolia flower. I will attach them for you.

When last in Firenze, I noticed these stunning flags hanging from many buildings in the city center so I picked up a few of them at il mercato (market). This is the traditional flag for the city of Florence. It is made of nautical polyester and measures 52 by 35 inches.
